Surrounding Area
Hempstead is a quiet, friendly hamlet 2 miles from the historic and bustling Georgian town of Holt with its selection of interesting shops, galleries and restaurants. Holt Country Park has lots of activities going on throughout the year and bikes can be hired locally.
Hempstead is the perfect base for walks directly from the cottage, including Baconsthorpe Castle (currently closed but due to reopen in the spring) and with good access to the coast a 15 minute drive away. The famous beaches at Holkham and Wells are a short ride along the coastal road to the west, passing Morston, Blakeney and Stiffkey and visitors to the cottage particularly like West Runton beach between Sheringham and Cromer to the east. National Trust properties Blickling Estate, Felbrigg Hall and Sheringham Park are not far away and the walks and gardens on the Mannington Estate are recommended . Bird watchers will want to visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust site at Cley Marshes and further afield at Holme-next-the-Sea and the RSPB's Titchwell Marsh. Good food is a feature of the area with many restaurants and pubs and plenty of seafood available.
