Surrounding Area
The lovely village of Mundesley is quaint and peaceful and is situated on the coastal path in an area of outstanding beauty. It is such an excellent base to explore the beauty and wonders of North Norfolk. To the west, it is a short drive to the popular seaside resorts of Cromer (with its famous pier), and Sheringham, equally charming and with a steam railway. It is a slightly longer drive along the coast to Cley, Blakeney, Wells-next-the-Sea, and the famous, beautiful and unspoilt Holkham beach.
The Georgian town of Holt, known for it's galleries, antique and bookshops, and independent eateries is a 30 minute drive.
A short drive to the east of the cottage is Hornsey Gap beach, where hundreds of seal flock in the winter months, and generally, at least a few can be seen throughout the year. Wroxham, which lies on the River Bure and is known as the capital of The Norfolk broads, is a 30 minute drive. Kayaking, boat hire and tours of the Norfolk Broads are all available from there. The historic cathedral town of Norwich is a 40 minute drive.
Family/child friendly:
There are a wealth of fantastic family activities nearby including BeWILDerwood, an enormous outdoor adventure playground, also offering seasonal children's activities (a 20 minute drive). Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, stunning gardens with lots of nature and wildlife, and indoor and outdoor children's playgrounds. Bure Valley Miniature steam railway, which runs from Aylsham to Wroxham and back. Crabbing at Wells-next-the-Sea and Blakeney. The Bug Park. And Mundesley itself also offers a playground, skate park, arcade and crazy golf!
Dog friendly: Mundesley, and Norfolk in general, is very dog friendly. In general, dogs are permitted on most beaches (sometimes at restricted times or areas), and in cafes and pubs. The lovely Ship Inn in Mundesley and the Old Red Lion in Cromer are highly recommended for dog friendly food and drink.
Cycling. Mundesley, like much of Norfolk, is quite flat and popular with cyclists. Mundesley has it's own well-equipped cycle shop, open 6 days a week, and is on the North Norfolk cycle path.
